GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) has, as of May 25th, 2018, governed how organizations manage data privacy and data protection for their employees as well as their customers, partners and all stakeholders.

GDPR is a major piece of EU legislation with many far-reaching implications for all.

GDPRWORLDWIDE.COM was set up to provide a one-stop shop for businesses around the world to move towards compliance as quickly as possible

TODAY GDPR Compliance: Still a key Point of Concern – On the day GDPR went into effect the majority of companies – including some global organizations – were not (fully) compliant with the regulation.

Many months have passed since the enforcement and studies now show that the compliance rate is still far from reaching 100%, with some businesses failing to meet even the essential requirements.

Although the regulation took effect after a two-year transition period, many companies faced challenges in implementing and enforcing privacy regulations, due to lack of knowledge, shortage of skills and budget, or difficulties in understanding their data inventory.

With non-compliance the risks are not limited to steep financial penalties; the firm’s reputation could also be damaged.

GDPR Compliance is complex. Learn more in Our FAQ section.

What is the GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) is a comprehensive EU data protection law, which went into effect on May 25, 2018. The GDPR expands the privacy rights of EU individuals, and places heightened obligations on companies that process EU personal data in the context of providing goods or services to those individuals.

What type of data is considered to be personal data?

The GDPR categorizes a broad swath of data, such as name, email, location, IP address, and online behavior as personal data. Learn more here.

We do not charge for services we offer. Do we need to comply?

Yes. The GDPR applies to firms that offer goods or services to EU residents irrespective of if payment is exchanged.

What happens if I do not comply?

You may be fined for up to €20mm or 4% of your worldwide turnover (revenue), whichever is greater. You may also be subject to lawsuits by affected data subjects.

How does BREXIT affect GDPR?

The short answer to the question “How does Brexit affect the GDPR?” is: it doesn’t. The GDPR is addressed first and foremost to the citizens of the European Union, so whether the UK is in the EU or not has little to do with it.

Does my firm need a Data Protection Officer (DPO)?

You must appoint a DPO if you represent public authorities or organizations that process large scale monitoring or processing of sensitive personal data.

GDPR is a Data Privacy Regulation With Teeth

Got an extra $25 million lying around in the petty cash drawer you can afford to lose?

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will harmonize data protection rules across the European Union.

GDPR is a Data Privacy Regulation and Is Ready to Bite

Fines could be imposed on any company that operates in EU member states, no matter where it is based.

The European Data Protection Supervisor throws warnings out about scope and communications.

Imagine this:

Your team working for a U.S.-based company holds a meeting in your local state. In preparation for the event, a free downloadable PDF sharing details about the meeting is available in exchange for the website visitor’s email address.

If the website visitor who just downloaded your PDF happens to be an EU citizen, you are now responsible for using and/or storing their data responsibly and in compliance with GDPR.
